Octavia Art Gallery | New Orleans

February 5 - 28, 2015

Opening reception: February 5, 6 – 8 pm

Octavia Art Gallery is pleased to present new work by Grover Mouton. This will be Mouton’s second solo exhibition with the gallery.

Architect and artist, Grover Mouton utilizes hand drawings to illustrate urban design proposals. Acting as a catalyst to explore design concepts, Mouton's works on paper demonstrate a humanized scale in understanding larger urban design and architectural concepts. His work explores urban density, walk-ability and scale in the built environment, while expressing a real sense of place.  The exhibition will feature works focusing on Wall Street in New York, the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C., Berlin, Germany, and several regional locations.

Mouton studied drawing while in Rome at the American Academy, having been awarded the Rome Prize for architectural designs in outer space (1972-3). A graduate of the Harvard School of Design, he has served as Tulane University's Adjunct Associate Professor of Architecture for 25 years, and is the founder and director of the Tulane Regional Urban Design Center (TRUDC), housed within the School of Architecture.  He has earned numerous awards, including both MIT and NEA fellowships.  Mouton's drawings, formatted in environmental installations, have been exhibited at the Hirshorn Museum, Washington DC; the Drawing Center, NY; the New Orleans Museum of Art; the University Museum, Houston, TX; Tulane University, New Orleans, LA; Venice Biennale; Documenta, Kassel, Germany; and Marlborough Gallery, NY. His works are included in public institutions such as the Guggenheim (NY) and the New Orleans Museum of Art, and private art collections including Agnes Gund, Barbara Jacobson, & Phyllis Lambert.
