Preparatory study for the 1959 painting "Interior with the Dresser & the Dog" While living in the South of France in 1958, Picasso purchased the castle in a village called Vauvenargues. The furniture within included an enormous Renaissance dresser, which became a muse for the artist. He executed seven paintings featuring the armoire, as well as a number of drawings. This crayon drawing is from the collection of Maurice Bresnu, who was Picasso's driver from 1965 to 1973.
